Attic & Ceiling Water Damage
Attic & Ceiling Water Damage From Roof Leaks
Fix the Roof, Then Fix What the Roof Leak Ruined
Stopping the leak is only half the job. By the time water shows on a ceiling it has already soaked the insulation, wet the framing, and stained or softened the drywall. The Roofing Pro repairs the roof and the damage below it, so you are not coordinating separate contractors while your attic slowly grows mold. One crew, one schedule, one warranty.
What Roof Leaks Do to an Attic
Attic damage is invisible until it is expensive. Wet fiberglass or cellulose insulation loses most of its R-value and holds moisture against the framing for weeks. Roof decking softens and delaminates. Rafters and ceiling joists stain and can begin to rot. Mold takes hold in as little as 48 hours in warm, damp attic air.
- Soaked, compressed, or discolored insulation
- Dark water trails on the underside of the roof decking
- Staining and moisture in rafters and ceiling joists
- Musty odor drifting into the rooms below
- Mold growth on wood and the back of drywall
Ceiling and Drywall Damage
Ceiling stains are the visible tip of the problem. Wet drywall sags, bubbles, and eventually falls, and painting over a stain does nothing about the wet material behind it. We cut out the damaged section, check the framing and insulation above it, dry the cavity, and install new drywall that is taped, textured to match, and primed so the repair disappears.
Our Water Damage Repair Process
- Stop the leak with a permanent roof repair or emergency tarp
- Moisture mapping of the attic, ceiling, and walls with meters so nothing wet is left behind
- Remove wet insulation and any drywall that cannot be saved
- Dry the structure with air movers and dehumidifiers until readings are normal
- Treat framing with an antimicrobial to prevent mold
- Replace insulation to current code R-value
- Repair drywall and ceilings with matched texture, ready for paint
- Document everything with photos and moisture logs for your insurance claim
Interior water damage from a sudden roof leak is one of the most commonly covered claims. We provide the documentation and work directly with your adjuster through our insurance claim support service.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I just paint over a ceiling water stain?
Only after the leak is fixed and the drywall is confirmed dry and solid. Painting over wet or soft drywall traps moisture and the stain comes back. We test it before recommending paint versus replacement.
Does wet insulation have to be replaced?
Usually yes. Fiberglass can sometimes dry if the wetting was brief, but cellulose and any insulation that has been wet for more than a day or two should be removed and replaced.
How do you know the attic is fully dry?
We take moisture readings in the framing and decking, not just the surface, and we do not close up the ceiling until those readings are within normal range.
Is the mold from a roof leak dangerous?
Any mold growth should be removed and the source of moisture fixed. Small areas on framing are treated during the repair. Large or spreading growth is referred to a remediation specialist we work with.
